Senior Legal Services Program
Legal Aid of Napa Valley provides free bilingual legal advice and representation to seniors and their caregivers on a variety of legal issues, including:
- Housing and landlord/tenant advocacy
- Elder abuse and neglect
- Nursing home care
- Debt and consumer matters
- Small estate planning and advance health care directives
- Access to public benefits
- Health care benefits and support services
- Dissolution of marriage and other family law matters
Legal Advice Clinics
Free clinics for seniors are held regularly at the Veterans’ Home in Yountville, the Calistoga Family Center, the American Canyon Family Resource Center, and other locations throughout Napa County convenient for seniors and their caregivers in need. People seeking legal advice may attend a clinic to consult with a legal advocate free of charge. We recommend contacting Legal Aid before attending a clinic to confirm the time and place of the clinic and to schedule an appointment.
Eligibility
Services are available to seniors 60 years of age or older residing in Napa County regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability, family status, or national origin. Priority is given to seniors who have the greatest economic need, are members of minority groups, reside in rural areas, or are frail or physically or mentally impaired. When first contacting Legal Aid, clients will be asked certain question about their income and assets, family size and residency to assess whether eligibility requirements are met. Legal rules also require us to screen for any conflicts of interest prior to providing legal advice and/or representation. All information we collect from clients is confidential.
The Senior Legal Services Program is made possible by grants from the Foster's Wine Estates, Area Agency on Aging Serving Napa-Solano, Napa County Master Settlement Agreement Funds, the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging and the Albert and Elaine Borchard Foundation Center on Law and Aging, the Legal Services Trust Fund of the State Bar of California and van Loben Sels/Rembe Rock Foundation.
